Nineteen people were confirmed dead when a public utility bus fell off the cliff in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro on March 20, 2018. According to Spokesperson Superintendent Imelda Tolentino, Dimple Star Bus with plate number TYU 708 lost its break while crossing Patrick Bridge which is located on the boundary of Barangay Batong Buhay and San Agustin.
The driver, Amo Panganiban was not able to control the bus until it hit the nose of the bridge and fell off the cliff around 9:30 in the evening.
The casaualties were Teresita Dupagan, Elizabeth dela Cruz, Marciano Ramos, Virginia Ramos, Ervin Ebienga, Lolita Bayle, Lea Borlado, Anselma Gomez, Gilbert Vanguargia, Jr., Robert Jose, Gloria Gabuco, and Rudy Bacani.
Meanwhile, according to the survivors, they heard the shouting voice of the driver telling them to hold tight because the bus lost its break.
Because of the incident, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended ten units of Dimple Star Bus company.
LTFRB Board Member/Spokesperson Atty. Aileen Lizada personally visited the terminal of Dimple Star Bus located at P. Tuazon, Quezon City where she discovered some defective buses of the company.
